Introduction

A picture may be intriguing, interesting, thought provoking, beautiful, ugly, terrifying, earth shattering, or maybe boring or personal.  I have taken many pictures over a number of years, and I want to share them, but I find that while the pictures themselves might be worth viewing, the story behind the pictures makes the pictures’ appeal broader than the image alone.

Put simply, I like what I like, and I think that I like what everyone would like if they only knew the back story.

And so I am starting a blog that presents my favorite photographs one at a time with emphasis on the story.

Pictures can be self-explanatory, but rather than leave the viewer wondering if they understand what the picture is about, I will describe the picture including the reasons for taking it, the emotions it generates in me, and maybe something about the subject of the photograph.  I may even include some photographs that include me; even though I didn't take them, it was my camera and I chose to be photographed, so they are "my photographs."

Part of the reason for this project is to give me an excuse to revisit the pictures I have taken, to remember and reminisce about the day they were taken.  I can't relive the moment literally, but I can remember it.

Part of the reason is to provide my family and friends a record of my thoughts.  We are what we do, what we see and what we think.

And part is to see what pictures have wide appeal; what stories are meaningful beyond my own mind.  I don't claim to be professional, and critical analysis will probably not help me become a better photographer, but feel free to comment pro or con.
